carlsbad half and the weekend

dad and i ran the carlsbad half yesterday and i must say i am quite surprised by how quickly i was able to run it considering i hadn't been able to train! we ran it in 2:23 which is faster than we ran it in 2006. my 2006 carlsbad half was my first and to date the longest time for a half. the first couple of miles REALLY sucked cause i was cold, my legs were cold, and you start on some interesting inclines. during the second through 9th miles i kept a steady pace with dad and was easily able to talk with him. around mile 10 i started hurtin! my right calf muscle started to cramp and i was just getting exhausted. we walked a minute up on hill and my stubbornness kept us running through the rest of the race after that hill (the one going up to tamarak). it was overall a great experience and i'm really glad dad came out to run it with me again this year. i hope that'll be a yearly father/daughter thing!! i will admit though that my legs were SORE last night til i took a hot bath and thoroughly stretched.

all in all, it's been great having dad and nicole (even lorinne) in town. we had a good time all hanging out last night watching the game and bbq'ing. lots of joking around and plenty of sarcasm. we are headed to dinner tonight after dad an i hit up sdri for some new shoes for him. he finally gets to meet pauli-wog who unnerved him on the phone!! here's the story on that one: dad went online and ordered a gift certificate for me and wanted it shipped to indy. paul called and asked him if he really wanted it shipped to me in cali and dad said no cause i was going to indy for christmas. to which paul replied, "she didn't tell me she was going to indy!!" that silenced dad!! hilarious! he never expected a call back from an online ordering nor to be told that the "salesman" didn't know i was going to indy for christmas!

anyway, i should probably get to work (although i'm waiting on an image to copy which will take a half an hour). so, i'll just pretend to work!!
